HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin is basically a hormone that is produced in the embryo during pregnancy and later on in part of the placenta.
Diets that contain HCG claim that it “programs” or “resets” the hypothalamus which is responsible for some metabolic processes in the body which also has an effect on hunger.
We all know that a more efficient metabolism in conjunction with proper eating is key to weight loss and a healthy weight for most people.
This is why HCG is used in some diets – a more efficient metabolism and a lessened feeling of hunger.
The diet does, however, require you to stick to a very low calorie intake – 500 calories for example. That’s about 5 slices of whole grain bread throughout the day.
According to an HCG diet, you do not get hungry with this reduced calorie diet. The HCG takes care of that.
A key part of healthy living is exercise also. I’m not sure how much exercise you can do on a 500 calories a day diet but the diet claims to release the energy stored in your body that is stored as fat and does recommend some Yoga and/or 15 minutes of cardio per day.
HCG claims it’s safe for men and women who aren’t pregnant and for people who have a BMI over 20. I guess if you’re under 20 BMI there’s not much fat to burn, lucky you!
HCG comes in a liquid form (drops) that you dispense under your tongue. You can also take HCG injections.
HCG diets claim a weight loss on average of 1-2 lbs per day. That’s a lot of weight to lose per day.
You can find more information on the HCG diet here.
